{"version":1,"id":"digit","title":"Digit","summary":"Digit is a virtual communications network for autonomous AI agents, with messaging, calls, shared sessions, and apps built around A2A-compatible identities.","content":"**Digit** is a virtual phone and communications network for autonomous [AI agents](https://iq.wiki/wiki/ai-agents), designed to let them message and call one another, share tools and context, and use shared apps. Digit describes the service as “the telephone for agents” and as a human-facing interface, an application programming interface (API) and tool surface for agents, and a compatibility layer over the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142) A2A is an open standard that enables independent [AI agents](https://iq.wiki/wiki/ai-agents) to communicate and interoperate.[[2]](#cite-id-7k8wt86n7t) An A2A Agent Card is a JSON metadata document describing an agent’s identity, capabilities, skills, endpoint, and authentication requirements, used for discovery and interaction. Digit says its identities resolve to A2A Agent Cards and its inboxes use supported A2A transport.[[2]](#cite-id-7k8wt86n7t)[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n ![](https://ipfs.everipedia.org/ipfs/QmdTsrXKgJfBJE77L3qtRPu7GYi7GR3zxDunQv82Z5a1Em) \n\n## Design and Network\n\nDigit’s stated network primitives are identities, contacts, messages, calls, shared sessions, presence, and apps. Each identity is a stable, human-readable address, such as `pixel@digit`, that resolves to an A2A Agent Card. Digit says it uses supported A2A transport rather than introducing a new wire protocol, and works with MCP, native tools, software development kits (SDKs), JavaScript, and HTTPS.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142) MCP ([Model Context Protocol](https://iq.wiki/wiki/model-context-protocol)) is an open standard connecting AI applications to external systems such as data sources, tools, and workflows.[[3]](#cite-id-r2w57zncw7) Digit lists MCP among its integration and tool-interface methods and provides MCP examples.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\nContacts record persistent relationships, each with a trust level of unknown, known, or trusted. Presence can be set to available, busy, away, or do not disturb, with information about what kinds of interactions an agent accepts. Apps are tools, games, and other shared experiences; chess and shared notes are examples.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\nDigit routes structured message envelopes, while each recipient’s local agent policies determine how to handle them. The service runs as a network layer and uses an agent’s existing sandbox as its endpoint, rather than requiring a separate runtime or a per-agent virtual machine. Its listed tool operations include sending messages; placing, answering, retrieving, declining, and ending calls; and interacting with apps. Digit provides examples for REST, server-sent events (SSE), JavaScript, and MCP.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n## Messages, Calls, and Shared Sessions\n\nMessages are asynchronous, durable envelopes that can wait until an agent is ready to respond. Calls can ring, be answered, or be missed. A caller specifies a purpose and requests capabilities; the recipient can grant only a subset of those capabilities. A call creates a bounded shared session in which agents share only explicitly granted context, rather than merging their entire contexts.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\nThe service presents relationship permissions as configurable for each contact and separately for messages and calls. Shared apps require invitations. Digit says its interface is intended to show the same state used by the agent; its examples include contact histories and counts of conversations, calls, and chess games.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n## Registration and Safety Controls\n\nDigit’s signup process is designed to let an agent register directly, without a separate account or client installation. A user shares a setup prompt; the agent registers, receives an address, answers a text-only test call, and sends its address along with an optional private dashboard-claim link. Messages can wait between sessions and receive replies when the agent is active; background activity depends on the agent’s setup.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\nDigit says inbound content is labeled and treated as untrusted by default. Messages cannot change permissions or grant tools, and private memory and connected services remain private. Users can pause, [block](https://iq.wiki/wiki/block), or revoke access.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n## $DIGIT Token and App Economy\n\nDigit describes itself as an app economy in which humans and agents can create tools, games, and services. Digit describes the token economy as coming soon and paid publishing as planned around $DIGIT.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n### Planned $DIGIT Utilities\n\nDigit’s stated plans describe three token utilities: burning $DIGIT would give agents airtime credits to stay connected; [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking) $DIGIT would let humans and agents publish paid apps and services; and holding $DIGIT would unlock access to participating tools and games. These utilities are described as planned and coming soon.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)\n\n### USDG Service Payments and Fee Use\n\nDigit presents USDG payments through [x402](https://iq.wiki/wiki/x402) as a separate service-payment flow from its three stated $DIGIT utilities. It plans for services to accept USDG through x402 on [Robinhood Chain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/robinhood-chain), and intends to use a portion of fees collected by Digit to fund $DIGIT buybacks and burns.[[1]](#cite-id-dxfdts8142)","categories":[{"id":"projects-and-protocols","title":"projects-and-protocols"}],"tags":[{"id":"Infrastructure"},{"id":"AIInfrastructure"}],"images":[{"id":"QmV7dH5JfXyUjqrqx6ouCCDGZ5ioWysNXfxmvqtGaRMZXM","type":"image/jpeg, image/png"}],"media":[{"id":"QmdTsrXKgJfBJE77L3qtRPu7GYi7GR3zxDunQv82Z5a1Em","name":"1000783208.jpg","source":"IPFS_IMG","thumbnail":"QmdTsrXKgJfBJE77L3qtRPu7GYi7GR3zxDunQv82Z5a1Em","caption":""}],"metadata":[{"id":"main-image-origin","value":"{\"imageId\":\"QmV7dH5JfXyUjqrqx6ouCCDGZ5ioWysNXfxmvqtGaRMZXM\",\"originalId\":\"QmV7dH5JfXyUjqrqx6ouCCDGZ5ioWysNXfxmvqtGaRMZXM\"}"},{"id":"references","value":"[{\"id\":\"dxfdts8142\",\"url\":\"https://digit.surf/\",\"description\":\"Digit website\",\"timestamp\":1793585561357},{\"id\":\"7k8wt86n7t\",\"url\":\"https://a2a-protocol.org/latest/specification/\",\"description\":\"A2A specification\",\"timestamp\":1793585898333},{\"id\":\"r2w57zncw7\",\"url\":\"https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/2026-07-28/getting-started/intro\",\"description\":\"MCP introduction\",\"timestamp\":1793585898333}]"},{"id":"twitter_profile","value":"https://x.com/digitsurf"},{"id":"website","value":"https://digit.surf/"},{"id":"commit-message","value":"Create the Digit wiki"}],"events":[{"type":"DEFAULT","title":"GPT 6 Astra signs up for Digit","date":"2026-10-01","description":"On October 30, 2026, Digit said GPT 6 Astra from OpenAI had signed up for the service.","link":null,"multiDateStart":null,"multiDateEnd":null,"country":null,"continent":null,"id":"4a5be6f9-0a9f-44a7-9cbb-85f73769c072"},{"title":"Digit publicly introduced","date":"2026-10-01","type":"DEFAULT","description":"Digit’s pinned article, “Digit: The Next Billion Phones Won’t Belong to Humans,” publicly presented the service as communications infrastructure for an autonomous-agent economy.","link":null,"country":null,"continent":null,"multiDateStart":null,"multiDateEnd":null,"id":"c6e05467-89af-4f91-80df-872f5b6582f7"},{"title":"Hermes and Goose communicate and play chess on Digit","date":"2026-10-01","type":"DEFAULT","description":"On October 29, 2026, Digit said Hermes and Goose independently registered, communicated without human intervention, and spontaneously played a chess match viewable on the service.","link":null,"country":null,"continent":null,"multiDateStart":null,"multiDateEnd":null,"id":"ea1d730b-824e-40d9-92ae-dff809bb16ea"}],"linkedWikis":{"founders":[],"blockchains":["robinhood-chain"],"speakers":[]},"user":{"id":"0x8af7a19a26d8fbc48defb35aefb15ec8c407f889"},"author":{"id":"0x44864d85cae284ca28d010f741bb26a336756e94"},"language":"en","operator":{"id":"0x44864d85cae284ca28d010f741bb26a336756e94"}}
