It is EVM-compatible and supports [Solidity](https://iq.wiki/wiki/solidity) contracts alongside native Cosmos modules. Its native [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking) and [gas](https://iq.wiki/wiki/gas) coin is $MANTRA, formerly $OM.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)\n\nBuilt specifically for [RWAs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas), MANTRA Chain provides a compliant environment for users, developers, and regulators to operate, supporting global [RWA](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas) liquidity.[[2]](#cite-id-iwv0vq6tcyq)\n\nMANTRA aims to create a highly liquid [RWA](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas) ecosystem of permissioned [dApps](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-application), where users undergo [KYC](https://iq.wiki/wiki/know-your-customer-kyc) to trade regulated products on a permissionless chain accessible to anyone. It offers advanced functionalities unavailable in typical non-custodial [decentralized exchanges (DEX)](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-exchange), including trading various [crypto](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency), real estate, and equities assets and integrating directly with traditional banking systems for seamless interaction between [crypto](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency) and [fiat](https://iq.wiki/wiki/fiat-money) or on-chain. \n\nMANTRA's ecosystem, comprising the [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) protocol and [exchange](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-exchange) platform, allows for single-click transfers from bank accounts to brokerage to [wallets](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency-wallet), abstracting away the frictions between on and off-chain worlds.[[2]](#cite-id-iwv0vq6tcyq)\n\n## History\n\nMANTRA began in 2020 with OM as an [ERC-20](https://iq.wiki/wiki/erc-20) DeFi token. MANTRA Chain [mainnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/mainnet) launched on October 10, 2024, with OM as its native [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking) coin. The chain’s v5.0.0 release integrated the EVM module on September 15, 2025, enabling EVM compatibility. The ERC-20 OM migration window ended on January 15, 2026.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)[[19]](#cite-id-zuky4iylyr)\n\nAt [block](https://iq.wiki/wiki/block) 13,000,000 on March 2, 2026, a 1:4 non-dilutive redenomination changed the ticker from OM to MANTRA and raised the nominal maximum supply to 10 billion. On August 20, 2026, an exploit led to a chain halt; MANTRA restarted the network on August 22 after deploying v8.4.0.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)[[21]](#cite-id-ybxt6y34dl)\n\n## Technology and Architecture\n\nMANTRA Chain is built on the Cosmos SDK. Its EVM compatibility enables [Solidity](https://iq.wiki/wiki/solidity) [smart contracts](https://iq.wiki/wiki/smart-contract) to run alongside the chain’s native Cosmos modules, and its Cosmos-based infrastructure supports interoperability through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)[[19]](#cite-id-zuky4iylyr)\n\nThe August 2026 incident exploited an unsigned-integer underflow in the upstream `cosmos/evm` balance-accounting dependency through a staking-precompile call. The vulnerability was in that dependency, not in a MANTRA token contract; the incident did not involve privileged access or compromised [validator](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) keys.[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)\n\n## Features\n\n\n### MANTRA Compliance\n\nMANTRA Compliance offers tools and services to help [Web3](https://iq.wiki/wiki/web3) platforms meet regulatory requirements for [cryptocurrency](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency) transactions and financial activities. It streamlines and automates regulatory compliance, enabling [Web3](https://iq.wiki/wiki/web3) businesses to participate safely in the [cryptocurrency](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency) and [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) economy.[[3]](#cite-id-r05x8m76bom)\n\nFeatures of MANTRA Compliance include:[[3]](#cite-id-r05x8m76bom)\n\n* **KYC/KYB Protocols**: User and business verification, wallet address verification, sanctions/adverse media lists, and [AML](https://iq.wiki/wiki/anti-money-laundering-aml) screening.\n* **Reusable KYC**: Digital identity (DID) and soulbound [NFTs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft).\n* **Ongoing AML Checks**: Continuous user profile monitoring.\n* **User Risk Scoring**: Assessing user risk levels.\n* **Transaction Monitoring**: Know Your Transaction (KYT) protocols.\n\nBuilt on MANTRA Chain's [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) platform, MANTRA Compliance allows real-time and transparent tracking of transactions and financial activities. MANTRA [validators](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) provide security, and MANTRA provides settlement.[[24]](#cite-id-6m9har8b59)\n\n## Hongbai\n\nHongbai is the [testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet) for all changes and updates to MANTRA Chain’s infrastructure before they are deployed to the [mainnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/mainnet). It provides a comprehensive environment for developers to experiment with account creation, token transfers, development tools, and [smart contract](https://iq.wiki/wiki/smart-contract) deployment. Hongbai closely mirrors the behavior of the [mainnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/mainnet), allowing developers to test their applications in conditions similar to those on the live network. By simulating real-world scenarios, Hongbai helps developers identify and address potential issues or bugs before they affect [mainnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/mainnet) users.[[7]](#cite-id-hbq3geqhvus)\n\nThe Hongbai [Testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet) is a distributed network of [nodes](https://iq.wiki/wiki/node) that validate and propagate transactions through a decentralized protocol, ensuring seamless data exchange. Using a [Proof of Stake (PoS)](https://iq.wiki/wiki/proof-of-stake) [consensus mechanism](https://iq.wiki/wiki/consensus-mechanism), [validators](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) validate transactions and propose new [blocks](https://iq.wiki/wiki/block), maintaining the network's integrity and security.[[7]](#cite-id-hbq3geqhvus)\n\nKey developments of the Hongbai [Testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet) include:[[7]](#cite-id-hbq3geqhvus)\n\n* **Native Token Adoption**: OM is the native token of the [testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet), reflecting community consensus and solidifying its role within the ecosystem.\n* **Account Creation and [Testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet) Token Transfers**: Users can create accounts, generate cryptographic key pairs for authentication, and simulate the transfer of digital assets between accounts to test the [tokenization](https://iq.wiki/wiki/tokenization) and transfer of [RWAs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas) within the MANTRA ecosystem.\n* **Developer Onboarding**: Developers can access tools like CosmWasm for [smart contract](https://iq.wiki/wiki/smart-contract) development and deployment, enabling innovation and ease of creating new [dApps](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-application).\n* **Proprietary Modules**: Custom modules for [RWAs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas), such as Compliance, Token Service, and Guard, enhance security, asset management, and user interactions within the ecosystem.\n* **User-Friendly UI**: An intuitive interface simplifies interactions with the MANTRA Chain, streamlining the development and deployment process for developers.\n* **Phased [Validator](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) Onboarding**: A phased approach to [validator](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) onboarding maintains network security and performance by gradually introducing a curated set of [validators](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator).\n* **Community Engagement**: The [testnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/testnet) promotes community engagement through various activities and incentives, encouraging active participation and shaping the platform's future direction.\n\n [YOUTUBE@VID](2wdieQdKvI4) \n\n## MANTRA Token (formerly OM)\nMANTRA is MANTRA Chain’s native [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking) and [gas](https://iq.wiki/wiki/gas) coin. Before the March 2026 redenomination, the coin was called OM; MANTRA began in 2020 with OM as an [ERC-20](https://iq.wiki/wiki/erc-20) DeFi token, and OM later served as the chain’s native staking coin at [mainnet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/mainnet) launch.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)\n\nWhen a new token is [minted](https://iq.wiki/wiki/minting) or [burnt](https://iq.wiki/wiki/token-burn) within the Guard Module, fees are paid to the protocol treasury. After completing [KYC](https://iq.wiki/wiki/know-your-customer-kyc), users receive the chain’s native coin, historically called $OM and now called $MANTRA, which is stakeable to access the Guard Module. In this module, the [dApps](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-application) stake is used to deploy, and the users' stake is used to access [dApps](https://iq.wiki/wiki/decentralized-application).[[2]](#cite-id-iwv0vq6tcyq)[[8]](#cite-id-yqylgpdepnb)\n\n### Tokenomics\nMANTRA Chain's original launch plan described creating new OM tokens to incentivize community participation, support [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking), and finance ecosystem development. It specified that an additional 888,888,888 OM tokens would be [minted](https://iq.wiki/wiki/minting), supplementing the existing 888,888,888 OM tokens, with the new tokens allocated at MANTRA Chain's genesis. The plan also described elastic issuance of new OM tokens to address the increasing complexity of OM as a chain token, with inflation to be reduced over time and a transition to real-yield [staking](https://iq.wiki/wiki/staking) once the [RWA](https://iq.wiki/wiki/real-world-assets-rwas) ecosystem was sufficiently developed. These figures and mechanisms describe the prior token and launch plan.[[9]](#cite-id-9j7ctkprr6)\n\nOn March 2, 2026, a non-dilutive 1:4 redenomination changed the ticker from OM to MANTRA and increased the nominal maximum supply from 2.5 billion to 10 billion, without changing holders’ proportional value.[[18]](#cite-id-7w4z5cqx8j)\n\nProposal 33, which passed on June 9, 2026, increased annual inflation from 8% to 16% and changed the emissions allocation for MANTRA Chain Association operations and security from 40% to 60%, effective from the [block](https://iq.wiki/wiki/block) after passage.[[25]](#cite-id-iamt7a8jcf)\n\nProposal 39 passed on October 8, 2026, directing 25% of the staking-distribution pool to a Community Pool controlled by governance. At the proposal’s stated parameters, this represents 10 percentage points of headline inflation and reduces the staker share from 40% to 30%; it does not increase issuance or change the 16% headline inflation rate. Withdrawals from the Community Pool require separate governance approval. The proposal also endorsed a framework to direct [stablecoin](https://iq.wiki/wiki/stablecoin) fees from MANTRA’s proposed NVNM genesis-validator role toward open-market MANTRA purchases; the framework’s administration and details were to be published before operation.[[26]](#cite-id-hti9oaxk7f)\n\n## Partnerships\n\n* Allnodes\n* [Chainlink](https://iq.wiki/wiki/chainlink)\n* [Cosmostation](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cosmostation)\n* HexTrust\n* Imperator\n* Informal Systems\n* Interchain [Foundation](https://iq.wiki/wiki/foundation)\n* Keplr\n* Leap\n* LimeChain\n* [Lumia](https://iq.wiki/wiki/lumia) (ORN)\n* [Ondo](https://iq.wiki/wiki/ondo-finance)\n* RWA Inc\n* Skip\n* [Stride](https://iq.wiki/wiki/stride-blockchain)\n* [SwissBorg](https://iq.wiki/wiki/swissborg)\n* Trust\n* Zoth\n* Zand[[10]](#cite-id-yas4epn0qad)\n\n### Investors\nIn March 2024, MANTRA announced a successful $11M funding round led by Shorooq Partners. He explained that these actions were taken suddenly and during low-liquidity hours on Sunday evening UTC, which may have amplified the market impact.[[13]](#cite-id-pKlF86BSzg)\n\n> “We have determined that the OM market movements were triggered by reckless forced closures initiated by centralized exchanges on OM account holders,” Mantra co-founder John Mullin wrote in an April 13 statement on X.\n\n> “The timing and depth of the crash suggest that a very sudden closure of account positions was initiated without sufficient warning or notice,” he added.\n\nMullin told an X user they believe one exchange “in particular” was to blame but said they were still “figuring out the details.” He told others that the centralized exchange in question wasn’t [Binance](https://iq.wiki/wiki/binance).[[14]](#cite-id-tm8fOaMjTO)\n\nSome traders allege the token collapse was a [rug pull,](https://iq.wiki/wiki/rug-pull) while others are speculating the Mantra team had used their tokens as [collateral](https://iq.wiki/wiki/collateral) to take out a massive loan from a [centralized exchange](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cex-centralized-exchange) and the team fell prey to a loan risk parameter change, then a margin call.\n\nMullin denied these theories in follow-up X posts, saying, *“The team did not have a loan outstanding”* and haven't orchestrated a [rug pull](https://iq.wiki/wiki/rug-pull).\n\n> “Tokens remain locked and subject to the published vesting periods. OM’s [tokenomics](https://iq.wiki/wiki/tokenomics) remain intact, as shared last week in our latest token report. Our token wallet addresses are online and visible,” Mullin said.\n\n### Mantra announces Token Burn\n\nOn April 21, 2025, MANTRA announced 150M [token burns](https://iq.wiki/wiki/token-burn) after unstaking period ends on April 29, 2025.[[15]](#cite-id-JaaPlMiHMQ)\n\n### Security incident and chain halt (August 2026)\nMANTRA Chain experienced an exploit beginning on August 20, 2026, followed by a full [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) halt. The first unauthorized debit occurred at 19:06 UTC on August 20, when 600,000,035.56 MANTRA was moved from a burn address. At 22:59 UTC, another 120,923,932.44 MANTRA was moved from a legacy genesis-era multisig, for a total of 720,923,967.99 MANTRA.[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)\n\nThe exploit used an unsigned-integer underflow in the upstream `cosmos/evm` balance-accounting path, triggered through a staking-precompile call and a specially constructed account. It required no privileged access, and no [validator](https://iq.wiki/wiki/validator) keys were compromised. No customer account, exchange-held customer balance, deposit address, or application contract was debited. [Circulating supply](https://iq.wiki/wiki/circulating-supply) nevertheless rose because the two balances had been treated as economically inert and excluded from circulation; no new tokens were minted.[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)\n\nThe burn address was treated as inert, so the initial debit did not trigger an automated alert. MANTRA halted the chain at 23:13 UTC on August 20. The network resumed on August 22 after a coordinated deployment of v8.4.0, which fixed the underflow by making invalid subtraction fail, restricted the attacker address, and added a circuit-breaker defense. The outage lasted 30 hours and 13 minutes. The restart involved no rollback or state rewrite. Exchange deposits and withdrawals were disrupted during the halt.[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)[[21]](#cite-id-ybxt6y34dl)\n\nAs of August 28, 2026, no tokens had been recovered; approximately 37.96 million MANTRA remained immobilized in the attacker address, and recovery efforts involved exchanges and law enforcement.[[20]](#cite-id-wj0o4y0ap2)\n\nOn August 21, 2026, news outlets reported that MANTRA Chain experienced a full blockchain halt following an exploit. \n\nMANTRA updated its community afterwards that it was “aware of an incident affecting MANTRA Chain” and had halted the network as a precaution while it investigated. “We don’t have a root cause or timeline to share yet,” the project said, adding that all endpoints and transactions were frozen.[[16]](#cite-id-5fwV54xqDsp60R7f)
