{"version":1,"id":"yevgeny-khessin","title":"Yevgeny Khessin","summary":"Yevgeny Khessin is a founder and engineer who leads DIMO, a company building an open, decentralized platform and developer ecosystem for vehicle and mobility data.","content":"**Yevgeny Khessin** is a software engineer and technology executive with a background in connected vehicles, mobility, autonomous vehicles, cloud infrastructure, and vehicle data systems. He is the CEO and Founder of DIMO, having previously served as DIMO’s CTO and Co-Founder, and held engineering and technology roles at Aeris Communications, Integral, Ford Autonomous Vehicles/Argo AI, AT\\&T, and General Motors. [\\[7\\]](#cite-id-l3kx55d2KRGyn0wF) \n\n## Education\n\nKhessin graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Computer Science and Engineering in 2013. [\\[2\\]](#cite-id-8wle0eqi39) \n\n## Career\n\nKhessin began his career as a Research Assistant at the College of Engineering at Michigan State University, where he worked with professors to design and build an online AI-based system intended to authenticate online test results. He later worked as a UNIX and Network System Administrator for the Division of Engineering Computing Services, maintaining the College of Engineering’s network and carrying out software and hardware upgrades. In 2013, he joined General Motors as a Software Engineer in Product Development, where he developed internal applications used by approximately 10,000 engineers for vehicle design and engineering projects. He later worked as a Software Engineer for GM’s OnStar division, contributing to connected-vehicle and electric-vehicle connectivity projects, including 4G migration and battery-electric-vehicle interfaces.\n\nIn 2016, Khessin joined AT\\&T - Technical Specialist - IG as a Big Data Engineer, working on a real-time analytics platform for marketing and customer support using Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, and Hadoop. He subsequently worked as a Lead Software Engineer at Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC / Argo AI, where he contributed to a connected and autonomous vehicle ride-hailing platform. His work included overall platform architecture, leading backend and mobile engineers, integrating vehicle management and dispatch systems, developing vehicle unlocking and mobile application features, and implementing cloud-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-cloud systems. During the same period, he was a Co-founder of Integral, a software consultancy focused on mobility and autonomous vehicles, where he helped grow the company from two to more than 30 consultants, managed and mentored engineers, worked with a major automotive manufacturer on autonomous vehicle projects, and contributed to acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and software architecture projects.\n\nKhessin joined Aeris Communications as a Product Line Architect in 2019, working on the Aeris Mobility Suite, a connected vehicle platform used by automotive manufacturers including Volkswagen and Mitsubishi. He provided technology product management leadership in areas such as event-driven architecture, Kubernetes, and platform scalability, while also serving as a technical account manager for Volkswagen’s connected fleet and developing cloud-agnostic products for device connectivity, communication analysis, and device lifecycle management. In 2021, he became CTO and Co-Founder of DIMO, where he worked on developing the company’s vehicle data and fintech platform. He became CEO and Founder of DIMO in 2026, where he leads the company and its development of infrastructure for connected vehicle data and applications. [\\[1\\]](#cite-id-9h9rsm4dpl) \n\n## Interviews\n\n### Harnessing Car Data\n\nIn April 2026, Khessin appeared on the Future of the Future podcast, where he discussed his background in automotive technology and DIMO's development as an open, decentralized platform for vehicle data. He described DIMO’s approach to giving drivers control over their vehicle data while allowing automakers to establish data-sharing rules and supporting secure transactions. The discussion covered potential applications of vehicle data in areas such as vehicle maintenance, parking, EV charging, insurance, city planning, and autonomous-vehicle oversight, as well as the technical challenges of processing large volumes of data. Khessin also discussed the potential role of AI agents in using vehicle data to perform actions such as scheduling repairs and paying for parking, and addressed broader opportunities and risks associated with AI.  [\\[6\\]](#cite-id-o10jlzezz1) \n\n[YOUTUBE@VID](ZzIeSKE61zs)\n\n## Presentations\n\n### Programmable Transportation\n\nIn November 2024, Khessin presented at ETHGlobal on DIMO’s approach to making transportation programmable through an open network for vehicle and mobility data. He discussed the fragmentation of vehicle data across automakers, ride-hailing companies, insurers, and other organizations, as well as limitations in data access and verification that could hinder the development of transportation services. Khessin described DIMO’s use of open-source software, hardware and software integrations, smart contracts, and off-chain nodes to let users control access to their vehicle data and developers build applications using it. He highlighted applications including vehicle-data chatbots, decentralized taxi services, integrations between real vehicles and driving games, shared EV charging, shared car ownership, and peer-to-peer vehicle rentals, as well as potential applications in areas such as vehicle financing. The discussion covered MapMetrics’ navigation application, which rewards users for contributing location and mapping data, Ambient’s environmental sensor network and its collection of hyperlocal air-quality data, and DIMO’s vehicle data infrastructure, which connects vehicles, users, and developers through standardized, consent-based data sharing. The panelists discussed potential interoperability between these networks, including combining navigation, vehicle, and environmental data, as well as challenges related to network coverage, user and developer adoption, and compatibility between devices and platforms. They also discussed the potential for greater protocol interoperability, increased awareness of the value of user-generated data, and vehicles with digital identities supporting new applications, while identifying open-source development, application usage, and expansion of sensor networks as ways to contribute to these ecosystems.
